Taking the piss out of Lars Ulrich's occasionally dodgy drumming is like shooting fish in a barrel, or even just shooting a gun wildly into the air and just as much fun. The guy is the drummer of one of the biggest bands of all time, yet the joke of Ringo not even being the best drummer in The Beatles has been thrown in Lars' direction just as much and the thing is, Ringo may not have been the flashiest drummer, but he could keep time like a fucking metronome, whereas Lars has about as much of a sense of timing as a windchime. To be fair, people probably wouldn't lay into Lars as much if he hadn't developed the rep of having an ego that outweighs his own ability. As it stands though, he'll probably be seeing new compilations like this one made until he's on his deathbed (built of platinum records and Grammys, with a mattress stuffed full of cash). Check out this brand new fail compilation below, full of scowls and eye rolls from his frustrated bandmates, and brace yourself for a pretty disgusting twist ending.

As one half of the Belle Brigade with elder sister Barbara, Ethan Gruska released two albums of harmony-drenched west-coast rock. His solo debut is an altogether more sparse affair, his voice often backed by just piano or, on occasion, acoustic guitar. With the exception of Rather Be, the incongruously rocking Time Is the Healer and the quite wonderful Reoccurring Dream, the effect is to largely bury the hooks that defined his previous outfit. His newfound minimalism does bring his lyrics to the fore opener The Valley offers unflinching snapshots of childhood and young heartbreak and there are echoes of the late Elliott Smith throughout, but too often these hushed arrangements fail to engage. Avey Tare's second solo album starts with a simple strum and ends, via reflections on the qualities of coral, with strange whirring sounds and a cry of rage. Audacious, cryptic and meandering, Eucalyptus is both brilliant and infuriating, thanks mainly to the Animal Collective man's refusal to ditch the half-formed workouts that litter this LP. When Tare reins in his more outlandish instincts, as on Melody Unfair's rococo folkand the jumpy tribal pop of Jackson 5, he shows he is capable of producing songs as good as any in his band's oeuvre. Best of all is the candid When You Left Me, in which raw emotion supersedes sonic quirks. My Morning Jacket 2017-2018 Tour Dates: * = w/ The Districts The idea of a live-action update ofThe Lion Kingis still a little strange. Sure,Beauty and the Beastclearing a global billion means that every animated Disney movie of note (and if films likePete's Dragonare any indication, even those that aren't) is on its way to a big-budget modern reimagining. But evenThe Jungle Bookat least has Mowgli to its credit; a realisticLion Kingis still a movie full of animated animals, which draws the whole concept of live-action into question. Come 2019, though, we're hopeful that Jon Favreau will find a way to update the 1994 classic that adds new life to Disney's classic tale of life, death, and the circular nature of all things. Or, y'know, it'll be the same movie and still print money. Either or. Favreau has been assembling a formidable cast for the upcoming project, with Donald Glover slated to play Simba, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen stepping in for Timon and Pumbaa, and James Earl Jones reprising his inimitable voice work as Mufasa. There are also those rumors ofBeyonc being Disney's top pick for Nala. Now,The Wrapreports that John Oliver (he of every twentysomething's favorite edutainment programLast Week Tonight) has signed on to the hotly anticipated film, to take over as Mufasa's chief advisor Zazu. Oliver will take over for Rowan Atkinson, whose comically nervous work made for some of the funniest stuff in what's otherwise a frequently depressing film for children. Whether Oliver will be tasked with singing I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts for Scar's entertainment remains to be seen, but the comedian's signature delivery would seem to fit the loyal, embattled bird like a glove. The Lion King is currently scheduled for release on July 19th, 2019. |
